Social Networking can be used for almost everything nowadays. From socializing, to dating, to marketing,
and even business, social networking has become the wave of the future. In the area of corporate business, this
technology can help businesses by recruiting new employees for the company.
Linked In is the biggest example of this.
Not only can you review one person, you can aslo review their contacts
in the related fields as well. According to an article I read for this class,
:what really makes Linked In helpful is that it allows users to share their
online Rolodexes. Shally Steckerl used to hunt talent for Microsoft and is a
leader in online recruiting. With Linkedin, he can find people faster using a
vastly increased network of contacts.”
The benefits of this social network to society, particularly
prospective employees and employers, is a plethora of opportunity for all. It’s a one stop shop where one click can take
you to the next candidate.
Social Networking has also boosted the political campaigns
of our current president. In 2008, Obama’s
campaign tapped into the social networking phenomenon. “As a result, when he
arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania, Mr. Obama not only just a political base, but a
database, millions of names of supporters who can be engaged almost instantly.
And there’s every reason to believe that he will use the network not just to
campaign, but to govern.” Through social
networking, we now have the means to virtually keep up to date with the
president and all that he is doing for the country.
Although social networking does have its obvious perks,
there is indeed a dark side to it.
Privacy issues are a big concern, especially for teenagers who use these
sites.
Also, with information and the ability to read a comment at
our mere fingertips can be a down side. A
bad comment written by an individual, friend, politician, or consumer of a
product, can negatively impact the
person or their business.
I think that social networking will definitely evolve in the
future. I believe somewhere down the
road, privacy issues will not be as much of a problem. I also
would like to see more educational social networking sites
as the years go on.

Interesting post Renee. I agree LinkedIn is definitely an amazing use of social media in this day and age. Not only can you land a job but you can also connect with tons of professionals in your career area of interests just by sitting by your laptop. At my internship we use LinkedIn almost daily to promote our content and connect with Marketing individuals for possible sales and just some to hear some insight into our products. Twitter is also another great use for marketing because it gets the word out fast and easily. However I would have to choose LinkedIn over Twitter because it offers a more personal connection and you can create a relationship rather Twitter is a continuous stream of new information.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly why I do not like twitter! LOL
DeleteI would agree that one bad comment can get out of hand sometimes. Personally, it made me think before I post. I have witnessed some users who have been bullied due to an offensive post that went viral.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!!! I always think twice before posting now!
